Qualcomm to keynote Widget Summit

The mobile content industry is buzzing but current smartphone platforms account for a small percentage of global usage. How can publishers reach audiences in the long tail of data-enabled cell phones without costly partnerships and development time? Kevin Hunter of Qualcomm Internet Services will provide an overview of the broad mobile landscape at Widget Summit to help attendees navigate the intricacies of carriers, handsets, and capabilities in this booming market.

Smartphones such as the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry Storm, or HTC Dream capture the imagination of content publishers seeking new, affluent audiences on a truly personal mobile device. Each phone features a distinct operating system and distinct capabilities with unique developer platforms required to match consumer expectations on each device. Each mobile OS abstracts carrier relationships, billing, and available data paths to remove a few barriers from their developer community. How can publishers scale their distribution to more handsets in more places from more carriers without losing key elements such as UI and device integrations? This keynote session will examine a global market of mobile content endpoints with new actionable objectives for content teams.

Qualcomm recently announced Plaza, a mobile widget framework based on Web standards and tools such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Plaza builds upon the broad success of the BREW application platform updated for today's mobile data environment. Qualcomm has deep experience developing software experiences across multiple devices while negotiating the concerns of wireless carriers, handset manufacturers, developers, and publishers.
